{"id":69614,"date":"2025-04-15T19:29:19","date_gmt":"2025-04-15T18:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cxtoday.com\/?p=69614"},"modified":"2025-05-06T15:18:56","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T14:18:56","slug":"salesforce-google-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cxtoday.com\/crm\/salesforce-google-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"The Big Salesforce-Google Partnership: A Closer Look"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In February, Salesforce and Google strengthened their decades-long collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>The headlines focused on mutual customers being able to access Google Gemini within Salesforce\u2019s Agentforce platform.<\/p>\n<p>Brands may then build AI agents through Agentforce, leveraging Gemini\u2019s capabilities to process audio, images, and video.<\/p>\n<p>As such, their AI agents become multimodal, increasing the scope for enterprise automation.<\/p>\n<p>After all, agents can perform tasks like capturing serial numbers, identifying product issues, or detecting emotions in voice recordings \u2013 alongside various other possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, AI agents may also \u2013 via Vertex AI &#8211; leverage live insights from Google Search, which may open the door to further use cases.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, marketing teams could create an agent that adjusts content plans based on trending search topics. Meanwhile, sales personnel may develop an agent that unpacks what prospects are \u201cGoogling\u201d about the brand. Again, these are just some of the possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>However, while the merging of Agentforce and Gemini is exciting, it is only one part of the revitalized relationship. There are many other significant aspects of this announcement.<\/p>\n<h2>Salesforce Is Giving Its Customers More Choice<\/h2>\n<p>Adding Gemini to Agentforce gives Salesforce customers more choice in the underlying models they wish to power their AI agents.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, beyond that, Salesforce is showcasing to customers and prospects that \u2013 when working with the CRM leader \u2013 they\u2019ll have options when it comes to hyperscalers.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s according to <strong>Rebecca Wetteman, CEO &amp; Principal Analyst at Valoir, <\/strong>who points to how customers can now deploy Salesforce through the Google Cloud marketplace.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don\u2019t see Google being a major sales channel for Salesforce through this \u2014 they\u2019re typically not selling to the same kinds of buyers,&#8221; said Wetteman on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KtRxrG7drtU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an episode of CX Today\u2019s Salesforce Update<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But this gives Salesforce an answer for customers who either don\u2019t want to go with AWS or simply want to have a choice when considering hyperscalers moving forward.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To Wetteman\u2019s initial point, both vendors estimate a value of approximately $2.5BN to spring from the partnership over the next seven years.<\/p>\n<p>Given the momentous size of both vendors, that\u2019s not a huge number spread out over that time.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the announcement is especially significant in terms of Salesforce making positive moves to give customers more choice.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, there are a couple more fascinating threads to pull at.<\/p>\n<h2>Tableau, Google Looker, &amp; BigQuery Come Together In One Interface<\/h2>\n<p>The Agentforce-Gemini announcement and availability of Salesforce on the Google Cloud Marketplace mark \u201cjust the beginning\u201d of the expanded partnership.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the vendors teased more announcements throughout 2025.<\/p>\n<p>For starters, they pledged a native Tableau, Looker, and BigQuery integration that will launch later this year.<\/p>\n<p>The move will allow organizations leveraging these platforms to manage and visualize their business data in one UI.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the tech giants promise standardized business logic and data definitions.<\/p>\n<p>Given the siloed nature of business intelligence, <strong>Michael Fauscette, Founder, CEO &amp; Chief Analyst at Arion Research<\/strong>, believes this could be \u201creally useful\u201d for customers. He noted:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This is something many customers have either tried to do on their own or wish they could.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, both vendors will deepen the integrations between BigQuery, the Google Cloud Cortex Framework, and Salesforce Data Cloud.<\/p>\n<p>In doing so, Salesforce hopes to \u201cmake it easier than ever\u201d for its customers to centralize enterprise data and ground its AI agents.<\/p>\n<p>Such moves are critical to Salesforce\u2019s agentic AI aspirations. After all, Data Cloud enables AI agents that more deeply understand a business and its customers, inspiring better reasoning and more effective actions.<\/p>\n<h2>Google Workspace &amp; Slack to Become Interoperable?<\/h2>\n<p>Historically, Salesforce referred to Slack as the &#8220;digital HQ&#8221; for business. That concept is coming back with Agentforce.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Agentforce in Slack empowers employees to call on AI agents \u2013 or \u201cdigital labor\u201d &#8211; to surface insights from Salesforce and third-party apps.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, employees may even instruct AI agents to initiate actions within such apps without opening them up.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Salesforce and Google are exploring the possibility of those third-party apps including Google Drive and Gmail.<\/p>\n<p>So, for instance, an employee could \u2013 via Agentforce in Slack \u2013 access and act on files in Google Drive or pull information from Gmail to improve communication and knowledge sharing.<\/p>\n<p>As such, Salesforce and Google could enable intelligent workflows across the platforms, automated with the help of Agentforce agents.<\/p>\n<h2>Salesforce &amp; Google Lead the Agentic AI Charge<\/h2>\n<p>Salesforce led the agentic AI charge with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cxtoday.com\/crm\/salesforce-goes-live-with-agentforce-promises-to-redefine-whats-possible-in-business\/\">the September 2024 launch of Agentforce<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That quick innovation helped it accumulate an install base that has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cxtoday.com\/crm\/salesforce-champions-unheralded-product-growth-in-the-quarter-of-agentforce\/\">already surpassed 5,000 customers<\/a>. Yet, it also enabled a foundation of customers that has now become experienced in building AI agents.<\/p>\n<p>These customers offer excellent insights into where agentic AI can add real value. Wetteman has picked up on several of these tidbits.<\/p>\n<p>During the Salesforce Update session, she shared an excellent example:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What\u2019s most interesting is how customers are using Agentforce \u2014 it\u2019s no longer just \u201cI need to get my data ready so I can point AI at it.\u201d Now, it\u2019s: I build my agent, I test it, and I can quickly see where the gaps are in my data.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Taking these lessons from its customers and democratizing such insight through an advanced AI education program has helped Salesforce sustain its market leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Google has also made pioneering moves in agentic AI. Perhaps most notable are its steps to put AI agents in the hands of consumers.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, it has launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cxtoday.com\/contact-center\/google-launches-an-ai-agent-that-will-call-customer-service-for-you\/\">an experimental feature<\/a> that allows some search engine users to employ an AI agent to call customer service for them.<\/p>\n<p>It has also filed a patent for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cxtoday.com\/conversational-ai\/google-is-creating-a-chatbot-that-will-take-calls-on-your-behalf\/\">an on-device AI agent<\/a> that will take calls \u2013 including outbound calls from businesses \u2013 on behalf of consumers.<\/p>\n<p>As such, Google is beckoning the future of machine-to-machine enterprise communications.<\/p>\n<p>In many cases, those conversations could happen between a customer leveraging a Google AI agent and a business leveraging Agentforce, perhaps augmented with Gemini.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Join the CX Community That Values Your Voice<\/h2>\n<p>This is your space to speak up, connect, and grow with thousands of CX leaders.
